The first FDA-approved MASH drug doesn’t treat patients with liver cirrhosis. A new Boehringer Ingelheim/Ochre Bio collaboration is researching regenerative medicines that could treat patients in this most advanced stage of the fatty liver disease.
The FDA has approved Madrigal Pharmaceuticals drug Rezdiffra as a treatment for the fatty liver disease NASH (also called MASH). It’s the first treatment for the chronic condition, which has been growing in prevalence.

Akero Therapeutics’ preliminary Phase 2b data show that treatment with its MASH drug, efruxifermin, continued to distance itself from a placebo measured at nearly two years of treatment. The latest Akero data build on six-month results reported in 2022.
